Ladies of CPGA, please join us for a Virtual Ladies Luncheon on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm. This month we will hear from Joy Buie, Ph.D, MSCR, RN, Vice President of Research at the Lupus Foundation of America, who will speak on Lupus 101.
Lupus is a chronic (long-term) autoimmune disease initially impacting women in their childbearing years (ages 15-44). The Lupus 101 presentation will cover signs and symptoms of lupus, lupus treatments, and steps to take if you or a loved one might be impacted by lupus or other rheumatic autoimmune diseases.
About Joy:
A native of Rock Hill, SC, Dr. Joy Buie is a translational immunologist and health equity researcher whose career spans more than 15 years. As the Vice President of Research at the Lupus Foundation of America, Dr. Buie has led impactful efforts to close gaps in lupus outcomes through research and advocacy. Dr. Buie’s academic background reflects a strong commitment to interdisciplinary learning. She earned her Ph.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina, followed by a Master’s in Clinical Research and a Bachelor’s in Nursing. This diverse training equips her to approach complex health problems from multiple vantage points, fostering the development of forward-thinking, community-centered solutions. Early in her career, Dr. Buie’s research interests in the role of epigenetics in vascular remodeling led to her participation in the American Heart Association’s Strategically Funded Research Network. Through this work, she contributed to informed care models that helped improve stroke outcomes by promoting sustained engagement with patients during acute episodes of care. Dr. Buie’s professional contributions, grounded in her lived experiences and scholarly expertise, continue to shape inclusive research strategies that center the voices of underrepresented populations. Her unwavering dedication to advancing equity in healthcare and research serves as both a model and a source of inspiration for colleagues and communities alike. In her spare time, Dr. Buie enjoys spending time with her daughter Faith, husband Stevyn, playing with her dog Sebastian, and working out.
